Getting Ready to Graduate?

Five Tips for Weathering the Ad-Industry Storm
From Advertising Age Online

This article offers advice to the thousands of students pursuing advertising and marketing degrees, expected to graduate in the upcoming year. With our struggling economy, finding a decent job (or even a job at all) is something that is beginning to seem near impossible. In light of this, the article offers five tips for college students and graduates to keep in mind while finishing up school and beginning the job hunt:
1) Do your homework
2) Intern
3) Think digital, digital, digital
4) Have an open mind
5) Chin up

As I was reading this article, I couldn't help but worry about life after graduation. It seems like such a terrible time to enter the market, and I still have another year left. I'm at a lost for how to find myself an internship this summer, let alone a job next summer. The five tips definitely make for valid points to keep in mind, but it's hard to not let all of them fall to the side when getting caught up in the frenzy, chaos, and frustration of life after college.

I like the point they make about "thinking digital." It's become such an important element of society that we often take for granted. The article mentions that paper resumes are becoming more and more irrelevant, with digital portfolios posted on personal websites becoming the accepted norm. This is extremely important to keep in mind when trying to stand out from our peers in the job market. It's also a lot more complicated than it seems!

When 'thinking digital' about internships and jobs, make sure your public profile on FB is employer friendly.
